Objectives and Philosophy
Most of our dogs are outside with a few trained as inside housepets. For their own protection they are contained in a fenced-in area. Given the running nature of huskies, I do not take any chances. They are excercised twice daily and in the fall, winter and spring we run the dogs on our trails either with a sled or a training cart.

If you've looked at other breeders' sites, you may have noticed some common claims. More often than not, the breeder's objective is to breed for "quality", "temperament", and/or "size". Of course we breed for temperament, but we feel this is something that must also be encouraged in a puppy. We spend time with our puppies and play with them. Our puppies grow up in a home environment with the companionship of both humans and canines. Our goal is to produce healthy, attractive, intelligent, confident puppies; puppies with solid bone structure and joint development. These are what we consider "quality" attributes. Our siberians don't have a history of hip problems. What we strive for in "size" is consistency. We do not breed specifically for "blue eyes" or specific markings.

In spite of all the attention we give our sires and dams, there comes a time when Mother Nature may step in to make changes with our pups. As in our own lives, there is no accounting for a child that is born with an abnormality. Some things just can not be foreseen. If for any reason one of our puppies has a defect, we will honor the terms in our written health guarantee.

Your new puppy will be healthy
Each puppy is accompanied by a vaccination record and a sample of the food they're eating. For more information on the types of parasites puppies can get, please visit PetPlace.com.

Puppies receive their first distemper/parvo vaccination at 5-6 weeks of age, and their second at approximately 8-9 weeks (with lepto). They are also given a bordetella vaccine ("kennel cough"). After 9 weeks of age, puppies that are still with me are vaccinated every three weeks until they go to their new homes. My guarantee is two weeks for contagious disease and one year for congenital defects. We have a lifetime "welcome back" policy if you should ever not be able to keep a puppy purchased from us. If you have questions after taking your new puppy home, you're more than welcome to contact us for help. As the years go by, we hope that you'll stay in touch.

No breed of dog is totally free from inheritable genetic defects, but few breeds have had the good fortune of the Siberian Husky. Not only is the individual dog generally healthy and of good temperament, but throughout the years there has not been an abundance of genetic issues.

The Siberian Husky ranks 132 out of 136 according to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals with only 2% of the 14,101 huskies examined between January 1974 and December 2003 ranked as poor with regard to hip displaysia.

Although there are many possible eye defects, only three are of current concern in the Siberian. These are hereditary or juvenile cataracts, corneal dystrophy, and progressive retinal atrophy. Each disorder is present in a different portion of the eye, and will occur in any eye color. Eye defects in the Siberian Husky are serious and should not be understated or overlooked.

Visit the Siberian Husky Club of America for more information on hip and eye problems.

Visiting Searer Siberians
If and when you come to look at puppies, you're more than welcome to see their parents, too. We generally don't show puppies until they're at least 6 weeks old and have had their first shots. If you'd like to see puppies at a younger age, you may, but you can't touch them. Diseases can be carried on your hands, clothing, and shoes, so we must be very careful with unvaccinated puppies. Please do not bring children under 10 if the puppies are less than six weeks old. If you have already have a dog who is at least a year old and is current on all vaccinations, feel free to bring him/her with you to make sure he/she will be gentle with a new puppy. If you've scheduled a visit but are unable to come, please be polite and let us know. Visiting hours are by appointment.
